The focus will once again be on Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur to save their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign.

A defeat against RCB would mean that the five-time champions will be officially eliminated from the tournament. MI will now be aiming to produce a strong performance in order to stay alive in the playoff race.

Hardik Pandya missed LSG clash due to back spasm, Suryakumar Yadav led the side

Hardik Pandya was ruled out during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants a couple of days ago after suffering a back spasm. In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav took over the captaincy and led Mumbai Indians to an important victory.

MI also shared an official update regarding Hardik Pandya’s fitness situation.

“Hardik Pandya continues to be evaluated by the medical team, and they will inform the team on his progress. Suryakumar Yadav is coming tomorrow.”

The positive sign for MI is that Hardik has travelled with the squad and joined the practice sessions in Raipur. The final decision regarding his participation will be taken after assessing his fitness and recovery ahead of the high-pressure clash against RCB.

Suryakumar Yadav, who captained Mumbai Indians against LSG in Hardik’s absence, had stayed back after recently becoming a father and welcoming a baby girl. Because of that, he did not travel with the Mumbai Indians squad earlier.

However, the star batter is now set to rejoin the MI camp tomorrow ahead of the important clash

Mumbai Indians need complete turnaround to stay alive in IPL 2026

Mumbai Indians are currently placed ninth in the points table with just three wins in 10 matches. Although they are not officially out of the playoff race yet, their qualification chances remain very slim.

However, MI will take confidence from their promising win over Lucknow Super Giants where the batting unit delivered a sensational performance. Despite that victory, Mumbai’s bowling attack has looked terrible for most part of the season. Even experienced stars like Jasprit Bumrah have struggled to make a major impact consistently.

Mumbai Indians will now need to put up a solid all-round show against the defending champions RCB if they want to keep their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive.
