Bowlers With the Most Wickets in Test Cricket History

Muttiah Muralitharan tops the list and created history by taking a record number of wickets in his Test career. The legends like Shane Warne and James Anderson have followed him with their exceptional swing and spin.

Muttiah Muralitharan – 800 wickets

Sri Lanka's talismanic spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is the most successful bowler in Test cricket history. He took 800 wickets in 133 matches, a record number of wickets that is nearly impossible to break. He holds the remarkable world record for most wickets in Test matches of 5-wicket hauls in an innings (67 times) and 4-wicket hauls in a match (45 times).

Shane Warne – 700 wickets

Australia's legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne took 708 wickets in 145 matches. He was the first bowler to reach the 700-wicket mark. He took 5 wickets in an innings 37 times and 4 wicket-hauls 48 times during his test career. He also holds the record for most wickets in a test series in The Ashes 2005, where a total of 40 wickets in 5 matches was taken.

James Anderson – 704 wickets

James Anderson is the Sultan of Swing who has taken 704 wickets in 188 matches, which is one of the records for the most test wickets in international cricket. He has proven his consistency with 32 five-wicket hauls and 32 four-wicket hauls.

Anil Kumble – 619 wickets

Anil Kumble is India's greatest match-winner, who took 619 wickets in 132 matches. He took 5 wickets in an innings 35 times and 4 wickets in an innings 31 times. He is known as 'Jumbo', due to his accuracy and fighting spirit, with his best performance being taking all 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan.

Stuart Broad – 604 wickets

England's legendary fast bowler Stuart Broad took a total of 604 wickets in 167 matches during his illustrious Test career. His lethal bowling has seen him take 20 5-wicket hauls and 28 4-wicket hauls, which placed him among the most successful and influential bowlers in cricket history.

Nathan Lyon – 567 wickets

Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon has taken 567 wickets in 141 matches. He is considered one of the most wicket-taking bowlers in tests. He has proved his worth with 24 5-wicket hauls and 26 4-wicket hauls in his career.

Glenn McGrath – 563 wickets

Glenn McGrath is Australia's greatest fast bowler, who took a total of 563 wickets in 124 matches. He is known for his accurate line and length, with the amazing feat of taking 5 wickets in an innings 29 times and 4 wickets in an innings 28 times.

Glenn McGrath took a total of 36 wickets in the 1997 Ashes series (6 matches). This was one of the best records for most wickets in Test series at the time.

Ravichandran Ashwin – 537 wickets

Courtney Walsh – 519 wickets

Courtney Walsh is a West Indies' legendary fast bowler who took 519 wickets in 132 matches. He was the first bowler in the world to reach the 500-wicket mark in Test cricket. He played a key role in his team's victory with 22 5-wicket hauls and 32 4-wicket hauls in his career.

Dale Steyn – 439 wickets

Dale Steyn is known as South Africa's 'Sten Gun', who took 439 wickets in just 93 matches. His pace and swing are so lethal that he took 26 5-wicket hauls and 27 4-wicket hauls.
