The 54th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 will witness another fierce rivalry as Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Mumbai Indians on Sunday, May 10.

The clash will take place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium which is the second home venue of RCB this season.

RCB vs MI match preview

RCB come into this clash after back-to-back defeats and will now look for a turnaround to keep themselves strongly in contention for a top-two finish. Despite enjoying a strong campaign overall in IPL 2026, a few vulnerabilities have been exposed in recent matches, especially in the bowling department.

Apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the bowling attack has looked slightly short of options. Josh Hazlewood has leaked runs at times on expansive grounds while Krunal Pandya’s variations and change of pace have also been read well by opposition batters in recent games.

Still, the defending champions have enough experience and quality within the squad to tackle difficult situations and bounce back strongly in pressure contests.

Meanwhile, MI are on the verge of elimination but still keeping their minimal playoff hopes alive. They enter this clash after a brilliant win over Lucknow Super Giants where they chased down a massive total and finally showcased their batting strength properly.

The return of Rohit Sharma has given the side a massive boost and the former captain played a fantastic knock in the previous game. However, the bowling department still remains a concern for Mumbai.

Even experienced bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah have gone for runs this season. The only major positive has been Allah Ghazanfar who has looked clinical with his spin bowling and continues to emerge as a bright prospect for MI going forward.

RCB vs MI key players

Ryan Rickelton - Rickelton has done a phenomenal job for MI this season at the top of the order with 330 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of over 190. The way he cleanly strikes the ball and clears boundaries with ease makes him one of the most dangerous batters in the tournament.

Virat Kohli - Kohli suffered a rare two-ball duck in the previous clash against LSG. However, the highest run-scorer in IPL history is known for delivering in pressure situations and RCB will once again expect a big performance from him at their new home venue.

Tilak Varma - Tilak Varma needs to take more responsibility in the middle overs if MI want to finish strongly with the bat. He has had a mixed season so far but a player of his quality can always step up in crucial moments.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar - The current Purple Cap holder with 17 wickets to his name has once again been brilliant for RCB this season. His ability to swing the new ball early and execute clever variations at the death makes him one of the most dangerous bowlers in the tournament.

MI will be entering this clash as a do-or-die contest and they will throw everything possible to get past a strong RCB side who themselves are coming into the match after disappointing performances.

With MI finally showing signs of improvement in the batting department and momentum slightly shifting towards them after the previous win, Mumbai Indians are likely to edge past RCB in a thrilling contest.
