As the race for playoffs heats up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, another crucial clash awaits as Chennai Super Kings will be taking on Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, May 10.

A defeat for LSG would end their playoff hopes completely as the side is currently struggling at bottom of the table.

CSK vs LSG match preview

CSK are well and truly alive with five wins in 10 games and the recent momentum will certainly help them going forward at this crucial stage of the tournament.

Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai have bounced back brilliantly after a horrible start to the campaign. Sanju Samson once again proved his class with a brilliant knock against Delhi Capitals and has looked in outstanding touch this season.

The batting unit has also received strong support from the bowling department which has been excellent in the last few matches. Especially the spin department where Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad have done a fantastic job controlling the middle overs. Anshul Kamboj has also been very clinical with the ball and continues to impress with his consistency.

Meanwhile, LSG finally managed to end their six-match losing streak after defeating a strong Royal Challengers Bengaluru side in a close contest. Although they are still not officially eliminated from the playoff race, their chances remain very slim given their poor net run rate and current position on the points table.

Mitchell Marsh once again showed why he is regarded as one of the finest T20 batters in world cricket with a blistering century in the previous game. The bowling department too looked slightly better with Prince Yadav picking up crucial wickets with his pace and accuracy.

Overall, LSG still have plenty of firepower in their batting lineup but the bowling attack continues to look slightly weak under pressure situations.

CSK vs LSG key players

Sanju Samson - Samson has already scored two centuries in the tournament along with three Player of the Match performances. Once he gets going, there is hardly any stopping a player of his calibre.

Mitchell Marsh - Marsh is a highly explosive batter who can take the game away single-handedly if he gets going. Just like Samson, Marsh is capable of completely shifting momentum with his aggressive strokeplay. The tall Australian can hit massive sixes and punish bowlers all around the park once he settles in.

Akeal Hosein - Hosein has been bowling brilliantly for CSK in the powerplay and has created pressure right from the start with his smart variations and disciplined lines. Against an LSG batting lineup that enjoys pace on the ball, his role could once again become extremely crucial.

Prince Yadav - Prince came into the limelight after clean bowling Virat Kohli for a duck in the previous game. The youngster has bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament with his line, length and seam position. LSG will once again expect him to deliver in a high-pressure contest.

CSK vs LSG match prediction

Both sides have plenty of firepower in their batting lineup but CSK have looked like a far more settled and formidable side, especially at their home venue.

LSG have shown signs of improvement after their previous victory but the overall inconsistency throughout the season still remains a major concern. Their bowling attack has struggled regularly and that could once again hurt them badly against a strong CSK batting unit.

Although pressure situations in the IPL can always produce surprises when teams are fighting to stay alive, Chennai appear to have the stronger balance and momentum heading into this contest.
