Left out of India’s recent T20 plans, Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a thunderous reminder to the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee with a breathtaking century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Mumbai opener smashed a 48-ball hundred as the defending champions chased down a massive target of 235 to beat Haryana by four wickets in a Super League B clash on Sunday.

After a heavy defeat to Hyderabad dented their net run rate in the opening Super League game, Mumbai needed a statement performance—and they got one. Jaiswal (101 off 50 balls) and Sarfaraz Khan (64 off 24 balls) tore into the Haryana attack, hunting down the target in just 17.3 overs. Their explosive 88-run stand came in only 6.1 overs, turning a daunting chase into a one-sided contest and keeping Mumbai’s final hopes alive.
Yashasvi Jaiswal–Sarfaraz Khancarnage leaves Haryana stunned
Earlier, Haryana looked well set after captain Ankit Kumar (89 off 42 balls) and all-rounder Nishant Sindhu (63* off 38) stitched together a 110-run partnership in just 8.1 overs. Few could have predicted the devastation that followed once Mumbai began its reply.
Ajinkya Rahane provided early momentum before Jaiswal launched a brutal assault on Haryana’s seamers. With most of the bowling operating in the 125–130 kmph range, Jaiswal found the conditions tailor-made for strokeplay on a flat surface. Half-volleys were driven with authority, short balls were dispatched with ease, and the ramps and pulls flowed freely. He struck 16 fours in his innings, including five off Anshul Kamboj alone, along with several towering sixes.
Sarfaraz then joined the onslaught, showcasing his full range with audacious lap shots and ramps. His 50 came off just 16 balls, after which Jaiswal briefly played second fiddle before accelerating again to finish the chase emphatically. In a touching moment after the match, Jaiswal invited Sarfaraz to join him while collecting the ₹50,000 Player of the Match award.
With Shubman Gill struggling for consistency and the T20 World Cup looming, performances like this could force the selectors to reconsider. Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir may yet be tempted to take another look at Jaiswal during the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand before finalising plans for the global event.
