Punjab Kings Assistant Coach Brad Haddin has provided a crucial update on Shreyas Iyer’s availability for the upcoming clash against Chennai Super Kings on April 3.

Iyer, who was struck on the wrist by a ball during the 12th over of the match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, when Cooper Connolly’s shot struck him at the non-striker’s end, received immediate medical attention as he visibly appeared in pain.

Big Relief for Punjab Kings

There is a sense of relief in the Punjab camp as the injury scare is not as serious as initially feared. The team management has been closely monitoring Iyer’s condition, and early signs suggest he will be fit in time for the high-pressure clash.

“No fracture although there is some swelling. Shreyas is expected to play against CSK tomorrow though," PBKS Assistant Coach Brad Haddin told media on Thursday.

The statement comes as a major boost for Punjab Kings, especially given the importance of continuity in their batting lineup early in the tournament.

Why Shreyas Iyer’s presence matters

Iyer’s presence is vital for the Punjab Kings’ batting order. He has been the backbone of the franchise. In the season opener against Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur, he scored 18 runs, but his role extends far beyond just that innings.

The right-hand batter played a crucial part in PBKS’ run to the finals last year, amassing a staggering 604 runs in IPL 2025. He maintained an average of over 50 and a strike rate of 175, numbers that underline his consistency and impact in the middle order.

Beyond stats, Iyer brings stability and leadership, often guiding the innings during pressure situations. His ability to rotate strike and accelerate when needed makes him one of the most dependable batters in the league.
