There had been massive speculation around Hardik Pandya and his future with Mumbai Indians, with social media rumours suggesting a potential trade ahead of the next IPL season.

The speculation gathered pace after Mumbai’s poor campaign under Hardik’s leadership. The franchise has struggled for consistency throughout the season, and with the captain missing recent matches due to injury, online chatter around a possible move away from MI began to grow.

Reports dismiss Hardik Pandya trade rumours

A recent report by Cricbuzz has dismissed all such rumours and stated that there is no possibility of Hardik being traded to another franchise at this stage.

According to the report, while a section of social media speculated that franchise could trade their Panndya ahead of next season, sources close to developments have ruled out any such move. The franchise is not discussing any trade involving Hardik and he is expected to continue with Mumbai Indians for the upcoming seasons.

Hardik has been out of action since suffering back spasms ahead Mumbai’s clash against LSG. He has missed the last two matches, including fixtures in Mumbai and Raipur.

Mumbai Indians’ season adds to pressure

The uncertainty around Hardik’s future intensified mainly because of Mumbai’s disappointing season. In IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians have already been eliminated after losing eight of their 11 matches and have struggled badly throughout the tournament.

The side has failed to build momentum and injuries to key players only worsened the campaign. With pressure mounting over results, rumours around Hardik’s future naturally gained traction.

For now, though, the report makes it clear that Hardik remains central to Mumbai’s plans and there is no trade on the table despite the ongoing chatter.

Hardik Pandya was part of one of the biggest trades in IPL history when he moved from Gujarat Titans to MI ahead of the 2024 season. With Gujarat, Hardik enjoyed a highly successful captaincy stint, guiding the franchise to the title in 2022 and then to the final again in 2023, where GT lost a last-ball thriller in Ahmedabad.

However, his stint as Mumbai captain has not gone as expected. MI missed the playoffs in 2024, managed to qualify in 2025, and have once again fallen out of the race in 2026. The franchise last won the title in 2020 and has since endured a drought despite bringing Hardik as skipper.
