In the 15th over, New Zealand got the breakthrough with excellent teamwork in the deep. Mitchell Santner bowled to Alishan Sharafu, who went for a slog towards deep mid-wicket.
Mark Chapman timed his jump well near the boundary, caught the ball and quickly flicked it back inside before stepping on the rope. Daryl Mitchell was alert in the deep and completed the catch to end the partnership.
Fighting performance from UAE
The dismissal brought an end to a vital stand between Alishan Sharafu and UAE skipper Mohammad Waseem. The partnership had yielded 107 runs off just 77 deliveries, putting New Zealand under real pressure and pushing UAE towards a potential total close to 200.
Sharafu walked back after a well-composed innings, receiving applause from teammates and the crowd alike. However, that breakthrough shifted the momentum firmly in New Zealand’s favour.
The wicket proved decisive as UAE were eventually restricted to 173 runs. Skipper Mohammad Waseem top-scored with a fluent 66, while Alishan Sharafu contributed a mature 55.
