President's post in spotlight as BCCI AGM scheduled for September 28

NEW DELHI: The BCCI will hold its annual general meeting in Mumbai on September 28, with elections for several posts - including the Board president and IPL chairman - high on the agenda. The president's post has been vacant since former India cricketer Roger Binny stepped down earlier this month, while IPL chairman Arun Dhumal is expected to enter a mandatory cool-off period after completing six years in office. Although elections are scheduled for all key positions, in reality, the contest is expected to be only for the president's chair, with most other office-bearers likely to retain their roles. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, who has completed three years in office - including two years and three months as joint secretary and nine months as secretary - is expected to continue in his role. Saikia was unanimously elected secretary in January this year after Jay Shah assumed the position of ICC chairman. Other office-bearers likely to retain their posts include Rohan Gauns Desai, elected joint secretary in March, and Prabhtej Bhatia, elected treasurer in January alongside Saikia. It had earlier been reported that Roger Binny, who turned 70 in July, would remain BCCI president until the AGM in September, a date recently confirmed by the board to its state associations. Binny was first appointed president in October 2022. (With PTI Inputs)
