NEW DELHI: A victory parade after a World Cup or IPL triumph has almost become a tradition in recent times - as seen last year when Mumbai came to a standstill to celebrate the Indian men's team's T20 World Cup victory parade.

However, it remains to be seen whether a victory parade will be organised to celebrate the women's cricket team's historic ICC World Cup triumph, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told IANS on Monday.

India's historic triumph in the 13th edition of the global showpiece saw them join an elite list of champions, becoming only the fourth team to lift the coveted trophy after Australia (7), England (4), and New Zealand (1).

With the victory, Harmanpreet Kaur's side finally laid to rest the heartbreaks of 2005 and 2017, delivering India's long-awaited World Cup crown - a true watershed moment for women’s cricket in the country.

"Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now," Saikia said while speaking from Mumbai airport. "I'm leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meetings. Several senior officials are heading there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly."

The BCCI will reward the Indian women's cricket team with Rs 51 crore for winning the ODI World Cup, Saikia announced on Monday.

"As a token of appreciation, the BCCI will reward the Indian women's cricket team with a cash award of Rs 51 crore for winning the World Cup. It includes all the players, support staff and the national selection committee," Saikia said.
