NEW DELHI: India spinner Varun Chakravarthy was on Thursday appointed captain of Tamil Nadu for this season’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which begins across the country on November 26.

Chakravarthy comes into the tournament after playing a key role in India’s recent 2-1 T20I series win in Australia, where he picked up five wickets across three completed matches.

India batter Narayan Jagadeesan has been named the deputy for the team in the country’s premier domestic T20 competition.

Left arm spinner R Sai Kishore and promising youngster Andre Siddarth are also part of the squad. India left arm seamer T Natarajan has been included as well.

Tamil Nadu, who have had a modest run in this season’s Ranji Trophy, are placed in Elite Group D alongside Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Tripura, Jharkhand and Saurashtra.

The team will open their campaign against Rajasthan in Ahmedabad.
