NEW DELHI: India’s two batting greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are often at the centre of discussions within the cricketing fraternity, and this time Afghanistan star all-rounder Gulbadin Naib shared his choice between the two stalwarts.
In an exclusive conversation with Sportsyaari, Naib was asked to pick “a dream batting partner“ between Rohit and Kohli.
A Tough Call Between Two Legends
Naib began by admitting that choosing between Kohli and Rohit is never straightforward, given what both have contributed to Indian cricket over the years. He stressed that each brings something unique to the table, making the decision challenging for any cricketer.
“If you ask me today to choose a dream batting partner between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, it is obviously a very difficult choice. Both are special in their own way, but a choice still has to be made.”
Naib also reserved strong praise for Rohit Sharma, particularly for his leadership and success in recent years. He underlined how consistently taking a team deep into major tournaments reflects true greatness.
“Today, both Virat and Rohit are massive names in Indian cricket. What Rohit Sharma has achieved in the last three years is remarkable, winning the T20 World Cup, the Asia Cup, the Champions Trophy, and reaching a World Cup final. Taking a team to finals consistently in major tournaments is a huge achievement.”
Naib’s Final Choice
Despite acknowledging Rohit’s achievements, Naib made it clear that his heart still leans towards Kohli when it comes to choosing a batting partner. His admiration for Kohli has remained unchanged over the years.
“But if I have to pick just one batting partner, my personal favourite has always been Virat Kohli. So if I had to choose, I would go with Virat.”
