NEW DELHI: Afghanistan star all-rounder Gulbadin Naib shared some interesting insights on Indian legend Virat Kohli, highlighting how the batting great not only a master of tackling challenges but also a massive source of inspiration for young talents across the globe.

In a candid conversation with Sports Yaari, Gulbadin was asked about Virat Kohli’s recent ODI performances, which have left everyone stunned with his extraordinary batting displays even at the age of 36.

A champion who keeps coming back

Naib stressed that elite players have the experience and awareness to bring themselves back into form, and Kohli is a prime example of that rare quality.

“Absolutely. Big players know how to bring themselves back on track very quickly. They have experience and have played top-level cricket. Virat Kohli is that kind of player.”

Naib admitted that putting Kohli’s greatness into words is not easy, given the stature he holds in world cricket and the impact he has had over the years.

“If I speak about Virat, it becomes difficult because he is such a big player and also a great human being. When I saw him closely, I was extremely impressed. He thrives on challenges and enjoys being tested. In those moments, he does not care who the opponent is or what the situation is."

A role model

Naib further highlighted Kohli’s influence on young cricketers, especially those who look up to him as a role model.

“Whenever we have matches, we try to meet him. Our young batter Ibrahim Zadran is a huge fan of Virat, and these boys are our future. Virat meets everyone in a very humble manner and openly shares his experiences, including the ups and downs of his career.”
