NEW DELHI: What was meant to be a grand wedding celebration turned into a moment of anguish for India cricketer Smriti Mandhana, as her personal life was shaken by her father's sudden health scare.
Her wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal has been postponed indefinitely after her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was rushed to the hospital with heart-attack-like symptoms just hours before the ceremony on Sunday.
Matters worsened with reports that Palash was also briefly hospitalised in Sangli after breaking down due to emotional stress.

Palash has made it back to Mumbai and is now "resting and recuperating," his mother, Amita Muchhal, shared, explaining how the distress over Smriti's father's sudden illness deeply affected him.
"Palash ko uncle se bahut zyada attachment hai... Smriti se zyada yeh dono close hain," she told Hindustan Times. "Jab unko hogaya toh Smriti se phele Palash ne decision liya ke phere nahi karne jab tak uncle thik nahi ho jaate." Palash's mother clarified that it was her son's decision to postpone the wedding until Smriti's father had recovered.
"Rote rote ek dum tabiyat kharab ho gai... stress bahut hai. They had to keep him in the hospital for four hours. IV drip chadi, ECG hua, aur doosre tests hoye. Sab normal aaye, but the stress was just too much," she said.
Amita described how happy he had been the day before: "Ek din phele bahut dance kiya… Instagram pe Stories dal rahe the. But while we were planning the baraat, he suddenly felt discomfort. Pehle bataya nahi... jab badhne lagi, ambulance bulai."
"Smriti and Palash dono takleef mein hain... Palash dreamt of coming home with his bride. I had even planned a special welcome," she said.
Despite the emotional setback, Amita remains optimistic: "Everything will be fine... shaadi bohot jaldi hogi."
