NEW DELHI: Hitting six sixes in an over evoked memories of Yuvraj Singh's iconic feat against Stuart Broad in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. The fast-paced Hong Kong Sixes witnessed a similar historic moment on the opening day of the tournament during the Pakistan vs Kuwait match on Friday.

Pakistani batter Abbas Afridi pulled off a stunning feat in the Pool C match against Kuwait. The right-hander equalled a record by hitting six sixes in a single over off Yasin Patel.

Afridi finished with a blistering 55 runs off just 12 balls while chasing 124 in the six-over-a-side contest. Pakistan ultimately reached the target on the final ball, delivering a nail-biting spectacle for fans at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok.

The 24-year-old hadn't represented Pakistan since facing Bangladesh in July 2024, having made his national debut earlier that year against New Zealand in January. His explosive 12-ball 55 is bound to turn heads and attract the attention of selectors.

Despite this show, Afridi's overall T20 record remains modest. In 24 matches since his debut, he has scored 134 runs at an average of 12.18 and a strike rate of 112.61, leaving him currently outside the national team's plans.

Earlier, Australian batter Jack Wood displayed sheer power, smashing 55 off just 11 balls to help his side chase down an 88-run target in only three overs against the UAE in the Pool B match on Friday.

Wood tore through the UAE bowling attack, scoring 54 runs entirely in boundaries, including seven sixes and three fours, before being retired hurt. Nick Hobson kept the fireworks going, smashing three sixes and two fours in an unbeaten 26 off just five balls.
