In a massive injury scare for Chennai Super Kings, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson walked off the field during the crucial clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The incident took place during Spencer Johnson’s. The delivery was bowled well down the leg side and after the batter missed the flick and the ball suddenly swirled sharply, making it difficult for Samson to collect despite a full-length dive.
The CSK wicketkeeper only managed to get his fingertips to the ball and immediately looked in discomfort after taking a blow to his left little finger. The physio rushed onto the field to assess the injury before Samson eventually walked off for further treatment.
Following his exit, Urvil Patel took over the wicketkeeping duties for CSK, while Sarfaraz Khan came onto the field as a substitute fielder.

Sanju Samson has been one of the rare positives for CSK
CSK have already been hit hard by multiple injury concerns throughout their IPL 2026 campaign and another setback at this stage could seriously hurt their already slim playoff hopes.
If the injury turns out to be serious and Chennai somehow manage to qualify for the playoffs, Samson’s absence would come as a massive blow for the side.
The wicketkeeper-batter has been one of the very few shining lights for CSK this season. With three Player of the Match awards and two centuries to his name, Samson has almost single-handedly carried the batting unit on several occasions.
In 14 matches so far, the right-hander has scored 477 runs at an impressive average of 47.70 while also delivering consistently behind the stumps with his wicketkeeping skills.
Injury setbacks continue to trouble CSK throughout IPL 2026
Apart from Samson’s injury scare, CSK’s campaign this season has been heavily disrupted by multiple injury problems across departments, especially in the pace attack.
Those injury blows have played a massive role in Chennai’s inconsistent performances and have severely affected their campaign in a season where the five-time champions have already struggled to stay alive in the playoff race.
