India’s former captain Rohit Sharma has been named the tournament ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The event, set to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will run from 7 February to 8 March 2026.

Rohit, who led India to victory in the previous Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024, enjoyed a prolific T20I career, scoring 4,231 runs at an average of 32.01 and a strike rate of 140.89. He is one of the few players to have been part of two successful Men’s T20 World Cup campaigns, first in the inaugural 2007 edition and then again in 2024.

In his debut 2007 campaign, Rohit starred with crucial innings, including 50* against South Africa in the Super Eights and 30* in the final against Pakistan, ending the tournament unbeaten on 88 runs. The 2024 campaign saw him lead India to the elusive title as captain, finishing as the team’s highest run-scorer with 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70. His standout innings included a blistering 92 off 41 balls against Australia in the Super Eights and 57 off 39 against England in the semi-final. Following India’s triumph, Rohit announced his retirement from T20 internationals, bringing an end to his illustrious career in the shortest format.

Speaking about his new role, Rohit said, “It is great to have the tournament back in India and for me to be associated once again, this time in a new capacity as the brand ambassador. I wish all the players the very best and hope they enjoy India’s hospitality while taking back wonderful memories.”

Rohit’s appointment as tournament ambassador underscores his legendary status in T20 cricket and ensures his continued association with the sport at the global stage.
