Tilak Varma has come up with promising words for his franchise Mumbai Indians despite their disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, hinting at his long-term commitment to the five-time champions.

MI have already been eliminated from IPL 2026 in a disastrous season, but Tilak’s words will come as a major positive for the side, especially at a time when the franchise is expected to make several changes ahead of next year.

Winning IPL title with MI remains biggest goal for Tilak Varma

In a video posted by Mumbai Indians’s official X handle, the left-handed batter was seen speaking about his unfinished goal with the franchise.

“We are really sorry we couldn't do this year what we thought. We wanted to win the championship.”

The 23-year-old then delivered the strongest indication about his future with the side, saying the IPL trophy with MI remains his unfinished mission despite already winning major honours for India.

“Unless I win championship for MI, I won’t leave. Hopefully it’s coming next year. I’m really proud that I have won the World Cup, Asia Cup, all those things, but the only one thing remaining for me is winning the championship for MI.”

MI’s one of brightest prospects since 2022

Tilak Varma was bought by Mumbai in 2022 and has remained an essential part of the franchise ever since. Even this season, he has been one of the brighter performers for the side, playing key roles in several of their victories.

Tilak has been among MI’s most consistent middle-order batters since his arrival, and with international experience now under his belt, he could emerge as one of the senior figures around whom the franchise builds for the future.

In 66 IPL matches so far, Tilak has scored 1,835 runs at a strike rate of 147.9, often finishing games under pressure. He also scored a brilliant century this season and followed it up with another impactful innings against Punjab Kings a few days ago.

MI likely to make big changes after poor IPL 2026 season

Meanwhile, the five-time champions have endured a nightmare campaign, sitting ninth on the points table with only four wins in 12 matches.

While their batting showed some late promise during the second leg of the season, MI’s bowling unit struggled throughout, and the franchise is expected to target fresh faces in that department next year.
