Former head coach of Indian men’s cricket team, Ravi Shastri appeared on the latest episode of the Willow Talk Podcast in Sydney, just ahead of the India vs Australia ODI series.
The host said, "India is the daddy of world cricket," then paused for effect. Then former India coach Ravi Shastri quickly chimed in with his signature wit, saying, "India is the BIG daddy of world cricket" and the host and the former cricketer shared a laugh together.
In the same episode, Shastri discussed how the best thing to do is to assist active Indian cricketers to play in overseas franchise leagues. He stated that the best exposure for players would be to change environments and share dressing rooms with international players, and playing the biggest tournaments in different conditions and formats would help Indian players develop further and bring something new to domestic and international cricket.
Currently, the BCCI does not allow any current player to feature in a foreign T20 league. A player can play in a foreign tournament only after they have declared their retirement from all formats of cricket in India (domestically and internationally) and received a No Objection Certificate from the BCCI.
In a historic move, senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the first high-profile Indian cricketer to sign a deal with a BBL franchise. He is set to represent Sydney Thunder playing in the upcoming season making a significant step for Indian participation in overseas tournaments.
