Rain had the last laugh in Match 12 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as both Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) were forced to share a point each after the game was called off at Eden Gardens.

Only 3.4 overs of play was possible before heavy rain arrived in Kolkata. The downpour showed no signs of stopping and after a brief inspection, the outfield was not fit for further play. Even a five over contest was not possible, so the match had to be abandoned.

Points table sees PBKS go top while KKR finally open account

With this result, PBKS have climbed to the top of the table with five points from three games, including two wins and one no result. They continue their strong run this season and look like one of the most balanced sides so far.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders finally opened their account on the points table with one point. They remain winless after three games, having lost their first two matches, and this result only adds to their slow start.

Early blows for KKR before rain halts play at Eden Gardens

After winning the toss, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane made a surprising decision to bat first.

The move did not work in their favour early on. Finn Allen departed cheaply for six runs off seven balls. Cameron Green once again failed to make an impact and was dismissed for just four runs, raising serious concerns over his form.

At the time rain stopped play, Rahane was unbeaten on eight while Angkrish Raghuvanshi was not out on seven, with KKR struggling at 25 for 2 in 3.4 overs.

Xavier Bartlett makes early impact

It was a solid effort from Xavier Bartlett, who was the standout performer with the ball. In his short spell of 1.4 overs, the right arm pacer picked up two wickets while conceding just nine runs.

He bowled with good discipline, hitting consistent lengths and getting movement off the surface, making it difficult for the KKR batters to settle.

PBKS will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday as they aim to carry forward their momentum.

KKR will take on Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday in what will be a crucial game for them given their poor start to the season.
