NEW DELHI: India's domestic stalwart Priyank Panchal launched a scathing attack on India coach Ryan ten Doeschate over his comments on Rohit Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy following India's seven-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the second ODI in Rajkot.

Rohit had a modest outing in the first two ODIs against New Zealand, and Ten Doeschate suggested that the opener's struggles were down to being "short on cricket."

The former Netherlands international was equally blunt in his assessment of Reddy, saying the youngster had "often ended up not doing a heck of a lot" despite being given opportunities.

"Rohit, I thought tonight particularly, both innings was a real new-ball wicket. It didn't look easy to bat. Over a short period of time if you take the first ODI, he's (Rohit) not been as fluent as he has been and that's going to be a challenge for him, not playing cricket between series," Ten Doeschate said after the second ODI.

"He's such a brutal player, but he's actually a touch player at the end of the day. He times the ball... so as soon as the wickets aren't very good, it's going to be difficult for him to look in fluent mode like he normally is.

"He's definitely not the sort of guy to play for himself. It's just a combination of the wickets being slightly difficult and maybe just being a little bit short on cricket leading into the series."

Panchal launches no holds barred attack

Panchal opined that foreign coaches often struggle in India because they fail to manage relationships sensitively, especially when they lack a strong coaching pedigree to back their authority.

"Terrible comments by Ten Doeschate on Rohit and Nitish. There's a reason foreign coaches don't succeed in India. The dexterity you require to navigate through relationships here is lacking in them. Especially if they don't have anything notable to show in their CV," he wrote on X.
