In a timely boost for Mumbai Indians, Mitchell Santner has joined the squad for the ongoing IPL 2026 season. The New Zealand all-rounder strengthens the side further after their brilliant start in this year.
He is expected to be available for the upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, giving Mumbai more balance as they aim to continue their early momentum.
MI kicked off their campaign with a convincing six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.
Santner and England all rounder Will Jacks remain the only two players yet to join Mumbai Indians, who had registered a convincing win in their season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders last Sunday in Mumbai.
The two overseas stars, who played key roles for their respective sides in last month’s T20 World Cup, had requested a short extension before linking up with the MI squad.
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed that the team management had approved their request for additional time off due to personal reasons.
“With the guys who are joining (late are) obviously Mitch (Mitchell Santner) and Jacksy (Will Jacks). Both (had) asked for a slightly extended time for personal reasons and we were quite happy to go with that. But they will join the team pretty soon,” Jayawardene told reporters on eve of the game against KKR.
