Mitchell Marsh is turning out to be the brightest batting prospect for Lucknow Super Giants in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League.

The Australian powerhouse, despite LSG’s horrible campaign, has not disappointed and has continued to deliver important innings with the bat.

Mitchell Marsh enters record books with consecutive 500-plus IPL seasons

The same was on display during the RR vs LSG clash in IPL 2026 when Marsh once again played a brilliant knock and crossed the 500-run mark this season. With that, he became the first LSG batter to aggregate 500+ runs in successive IPL seasons, after scoring 627 runs in 2025.

Marsh has been one of the very few positives in an otherwise underwhelming season for Lucknow. While the team struggled for rhythm across departments, the Australian all-rounder kept producing impactful performances and remained the backbone of their batting lineup.

Has LSG found the perfect opening combination?

LSG’s batting order was one of the biggest disappointments in the first leg of IPL 2026. For most of the season, the top order failed to click, with Aiden Markram and Marsh unable to consistently provide the quick starts the team needed.

The story, however, changed once Josh Inglis returned to the setup. Since then, LSG’s top order has looked far more settled and aggressive, with the side finally managing to put opposition bowlers under pressure in the powerplay.

Against Rajasthan too, the opening pair laid a strong foundation with a 109-run partnership in just 8.2 overs, putting the Royals on the back foot early in the innings.

Inglis once again impressed with a blistering 60 off 29 deliveries, while Marsh carried on with the same confidence and authority that has defined his campaign. The pair looked in complete control and gave LSG the kind of start they had been missing for a large part of the season.

A strong base for next season

With Marsh continuing his consistency and Inglis adding a fresh spark at the top, LSG now have a strong batting core to build around for next season.

The combination of Marsh, Inglis and Pooran gives the franchise a formidable top order on paper, and if they can find consistency around the middle order, they could return as one of the most dangerous batting units in the tournament.

The bigger challenge will be how they handle pressure in crunch moments. LSG have often looked promising but failed to sustain momentum in key situations. With a better balance and a clearer batting identity now emerging, the franchise will hope this combination can take them further in the seasons ahead.
