KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka delivered a much-needed win for Delhi Capitals as they chased down a massive 226-run target against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. It marked DC’s first victory after three consecutive defeats.
Riyan Parag leads Rajasthan Royals to massive total
After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag opted to bat first, and his side responded with a strong 225 for 6 in 20 overs.
However, the start was far from ideal. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi fell early, putting the innings under pressure.
Parag then led from the front with a composed yet aggressive knock of 90 off 50 deliveries, including 8 fours and 5 sixes. He stitched a crucial 102-run partnership with Dhruv Jurel, who contributed 42.
Later, Donovan Ferreira provided the late flourish with an unbeaten 47 off just 14 balls, ensuring Rajasthan finished strongly.
For Delhi, Mitchell Starc stood out on his return, picking up 3 wickets for 40 runs.
KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka dominate the chase
Chasing 226, Delhi Capitals were under pressure after their previous outing, but the approach looked far more assured this time.
Nissanka made an immediate impact with a fluent 62 off 33 deliveries, while Rahul anchored the innings with a well-compiled 75 off 40 balls. The duo added 110 runs in under 10 overs, laying a strong foundation for the chase.
After the opening stand, Nitish Rana chipped in with a quick 33 off 17 deliveries to keep the momentum going.
Ashutosh Sharma then finished the chase in style alongside Tristan Stubbs, as DCreached 226 for 3 in 19.1 overs.
Rajasthan Royals fall short despite big total
It was a disappointing outing for Rajasthan Royals with the ball as they failed to defend a strong total.
Jofra Archer was expensive, finishing with figures of 1 for 46. Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja picked up a wicket each, but the effort was not enough to contain the Delhi Capitals batting lineup.
RR remain in fourth place after their fourth defeat of the season. Delhi, meanwhile, keep their campaign alive and move to sixth position with four wins.
