A clinical all-round performance from Kolkata Knight Riders has well and truly kept their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign alive with a commanding four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens.

With this win, KKR have now moved to the sixth position on the points table and remain firmly in contention for a playoff spot. However, their qualification scenario still depends on other results going in their favour.

KKR will need Rajasthan Royals to lose their next clash, while Punjab Kings also need to lose against Lucknow Super Giants. If PBKS win their upcoming match, KKR will then need to defeat Delhi Capitals by a significant margin in their final league game to surpass PBKS on net run rate.

MI suffer another batting collapse on difficult surface

After being invited to bat first, MI once again endured a poor batting display on a slow Eden Gardens surface. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton failed to provide a strong start, while Suryakumar Yadav also disappointed with the bat after getting dismissed for just 15 runs.

The innings never really gained momentum as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Tilak Varma struggled to accelerate on the sluggish surface, while Hardik Pandya too could not convert his start into a big innings.

A late counter-attack from Corbin Bosch, who smashed 32 runs off just 18 deliveries, helped MI reach a somewhat respectable total of 147/8 in their 20 overs.

For KKR, it was once again a disciplined bowling effort led by the pacers. Kartik Tyagi, Cameron Green and Saurabh Dubey picked up two wickets each, while Sunil Narine chipped in with one wicket.

Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell guide KKR home despite late hiccups

Chasing 148, KKR suffered an early setback after explosive opener Finn Allen departed in the very first over.

However, skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey steadied the innings with a crucial 38-run partnership in just 28 deliveries, giving KKR the platform they needed in the chase.

Manish continued his impressive knock and eventually scored 45 off 33 balls before getting dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. Later, Rovman Powell played a crucial hand with a brilliant 40 off 30 deliveries, taking the game well away from MI.

Despite a few late hiccups in the chase, Rinku Singh finished the game in style as KKR chased down the target in 18.5 overs.

For MI, Corbin Bosch once again stood out with the ball, picking up three wickets in his three-over spell, but his effort was not enough to prevent another defeat for the five-time champions.

This was MI’s ninth defeat of the season, and serious questions continue to be raised over the franchise’s performances after yet another disappointing IPL campaign.
