Lucknow Super Giants have received a timely boost with the latest cricket news as per Cricbuzz that Josh Inglis has finally arrived in India and linked up with the squad in Mumbai ahead of their game against Mumbai Indians on May 4.

The Australian wicketkeeper-batter, who missed the first half of the IPL 2026 season for personal reasons including his wedding on April 18, was bought by LSG for INR 8.6 crore at the auction, a significant investment in a player who LSG are hoping can be the spark that reignites a campaign that has gone badly wrong in the opening phase of the tournament.

IPL 2026: The controversy that preceded Josh Inglis' arrival

Inglis's journey to the LSG camp has not been without drama. He declined retention from Punjab Kings ahead of the auction, citing limited availability this season, a decision that prompted a sharp reaction from a PBKS co-owner who publicly labelled him unprofessional.

LSG then spent INR 8.6 crore, more than three times what PBKS had paid for him, knowing he would miss the early games. Reports had emerged suggesting he might arrive earlier than expected but that did not materialise, and his delayed arrival has coincided with LSG sitting tenth in the table with just two wins from eight games.

Why Josh Inglis is return matters so much for LSG

The timing of Inglis's arrival could not be more important for a franchise in genuine crisis. Nicholas Pooran has been one of the biggest disappointments of the season, averaging just 8.5 with a strike rate of 80, numbers so far below his usual standard that a replacement was inevitable.

Matthew Breetzke has also departed the tournament for personal reasons, creating further space in the overseas batting combination. Inglis slots in naturally at number three, the position where he was devastating for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, including a famous assault on Jasprit Bumrah in Qualifier 2 where he smashed 20 runs in a single over as part of a broader record of 52 runs scored off Bumrah across two matches.

The fact that his debut for LSG comes against a Bumrah-led MI attack at the Wankhede adds a compelling subplot to Monday's fixture.

LSG's desperate position and what comes next

LSG sit tenth with four points from eight games, a net run rate of minus 1.106 that reflects how heavily they have been beaten in several of their losses.

They lost their eighth consecutive home game in a Super Over defeat against KKR on April 26, a result that would have been heartbreaking in any circumstances but felt even more crushing given how much they needed the win. Their next three games across a single week, MI on May 4, RCB on May 7, CSK on May 10, represent a stretch where they need maximum points to keep any playoff hope alive.

KL Rahul has been magnificent individually with 433 runs including a high of 152 not out, and Mohsin Khan's five-wicket haul against KKR showed the bowling can be electric on the right day. But the team has not found the consistency to string results together.

Inglis, if Josh Inglis arrives and immediately produces the kind of 180-plus strike rate performances that defined his best T20 cricket, gives LSG something they have been missing all season, a batter who can change the tempo of a game single-handedly.
