NEW DELHI: Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bat as India took on the Netherlands in their T20 World Cup Group A clash on Wednesday.

India head into the contest on the back of a commanding 61 run victory over Pakistan, a result that sealed their passage into the Super Eights. The Netherlands, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back after suffering a heavy 93 run defeat to the USA in their previous game.

India made two changes to the playing XI, resting vice-captain Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, while bringing in Washington Sundar and Arshdeep Singh.

The Netherlands made one change, with Noah Croes coming in for Fred Klaassen.

Captains speak

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards said playing in India is always special and stressed that his side wants to end their campaign on a positive note after missing a few key moments in earlier matches.

"Playing in India is always an awesome experience. We feel like we've played a lot of good cricket. We've probably missed a couple of chances. So, yeah, for us, it's just about finishing our campaign well," Edwards said, underlining his team’s intent to sign off strongly.

Suryakumar explained that batting first was a calculated call, pointing to the surface conditions and upcoming fixtures at the same venue.

"We are going to bat first. Looks a good surface, we practiced here last night, there was a little bit of dew, so hopefully we get runs on the board and try and defend it because we're going to play the game on a similar strip 2 or 3 days later, so why not put bowlers under a little bit of pressure," he said, indicating India’s plan to test their bowlers in defence of a total.
