Mohammed Shami was traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2026 for Rs 10 crore. Mohammed Shami destroys SRH top-order in Hyderabad On April 5, Mohammed Shami came back to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and bowled four overs that SRH's batting lineup, the most feared powerplay unit in the competition last season, had absolutely no answer for. Abhishek Sharma gone for a two-ball duck in the first over. Travis Head gone for 7 in the third. Eighteen dot balls from 24 deliveries. Two wickets for nine runs at an economy of 2.25. On a ground where 200 is considered par Mohammed Shami reduced SRH to 22 for 3 in the powerplay and the game was effectively shaped in those opening overs before the rest of the match had a chance to find its rhythm. SRH vs LSG: The spell ball by ball and why it was historically good Shami struck with the very first over of the match. A fuller delivery drew Abhishek Sharma into a drive, got a thick outside edge and Manimaran Siddharth took the catch. Two balls. One wicket. The tone was set immediately after the first wicket. Mohammed Shami returned in the third over and removed Travis Head for 7, varying his pace and hitting the corridor of uncertainty consistently enough that Head, one of the most destructive powerplay batters in T20 cricket, was forced into a mistimed shot that looked entirely unlike him. SRH were 10 for 2 inside three overs and the crowd at Hyderabad had gone quiet. Shami then conceded only two runs in his final over, the ninth of the innings, which included a pinpoint yorker to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Eighteen dot balls from 24 is a 75 percent dot ball rate against a batting lineup that averaged nearly 11 runs per over last season. The economy of 2.25 is the most economical four-over spell of Shami's entire IPL career surpassing his previous best of 2.75. By the 11-over mark they were 51 for 4 with the run rate hovering at 4.64. Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy were at the crease attempting to build something but the platform was gone and the asking rate for a total anywhere near what this ground expects was climbing with every over. Manimaran Siddharth and the LSG spinners were operating with the confidence that comes from having 18 dot balls already in the bank. SRH had come into this game with their powerplay blueprint intact and the expectation that their top order would set the tempo as they did so often in 2025. Shami dismantled that blueprint in 24 deliveries. For a player traded away by the very franchise he just destroyed the timing and the precision of the performance made it one of the more complete spells of bowling seen in this tournament so far.
