Cricket South Africa (CSA) has revealed that the exciting young batsman Dewald Brevis will not be available for the next ODI series against Pakistan due to a minor strain of his shoulder muscles. In the third T20I in Lahore, Brevis seemed to be in pain while fielding and unfortunately, the injury happened on the spot. After the examination, it was decided that the player should be given some time off to recover from the injury rather than be engaged in the match immediately.
CSA prioritises Dewald Brevis's recovery ahead of India Test tour

On Tuesday, November 4, in a statement, CSA mentioned that Brevis will be a part of the Proteas medical team which will closely monitor his recovery. The board, through the statement, said that the main thing is to get him back to full fitness for South Africa’s tour of India, which will be a two-match Test series hard to the eye.
Because of how tough the conditions in the subcontinent will be, the selectors see Brevis as an essential component of South Africa's long-term Test side, someone capable of both stabilising and brightening the middle order.
The announcement of his replacement in the ODI squad will be made shortly. The selectors, meanwhile, are assessing candidates based on their form, fitness, and the team's balance for the first match.
Short for "Brevis" and considered as one of the most talented young players in South Africa, the player has not only been able to justify his name in the domestic circuit, but has also impressed in tests since making his debut to the international scene. The fact that Brevis is an aggressive batter and uses the shot-making skills in an inventive way has got the 22-year-old compared to AB de Villiers many a time, for the latter’s multi-dimensional batting style. Besides that he had a flourishing 2025 IPL season with the Chennai Super Kings where he came in as an injury replacement and scored prolifically straightaway to make the team strong with the bat.
Though this unfortunate moment can only break the hearts of the fans who were looking forward to seeing him dominate Pakistan in the ODI format, CSA is still positive and optimistic about his comeback. The series of ODIs, which includes Pakistan, will be on as planned but Brevis, on the other hand, is now only thinking about getting back to full health in time for the great India tour — a significant chance for the Proteas’ next-generation star to make his mark in the Test squad deep down.
