Chennai Super Kings began their third IPL 2026 game against RCB without recovering MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis on Sunday, April 5. The duo's absence from the starting elevens has cost the five-time champions dearly, as they remain winless this season. However, the team's head coach, Stephen Fleming, provided a positive update on the South African big-hitter's availability for CSK's next home game against the Delhi Capitals on April 11.

Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side were bowled out on 127 in their season-opening game against Rajasthan. They managed to post 209 runs in their first home game of the season against the Punjab Kings, with Ayush Mhatre and Shivam Dube scoring impactful innings. But, without Dewald Brevis in the middle-order, the Super Kings have failed to find their best batting order.

CSK's next game is against Delhi Capitals at home on April 11 and MS Dhoni is likely to return to the playing eleven. Head coach Stephen Fleming also hinted that Dewald Brevis will be fully fit for the DC game as the player gets five more days to recover completely from a side strain.

Speaking to broadcasters on the sidelines during the RCB vs CSK game, Fleming said:

"We are hoping that Dewald Brevis will be able to play in the next match. Our next match is again after five days, Brevis is expected to play in that game."

Brevis has already been batting in the nets and doing fielding drills. So, he is very likely to feature in Chennai Super Kings' next game against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 11.

Dewald Brevis record in IPL

Chennai Super Kings signed Dewals Brevis as an injury replacement to Gurjapneet Singh. He cost the team only INR 2.2 crore, which now seems like a genius move. Brevis went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction after being released by the Mumbai Indians.

The 22-year-old South African batter scored 230 runs in 10 IPL innings across two seasons (2022 and 2024) for Mumbai Indians. However, he enjoyed a brilliant rise in T20 cricket in 2025, and scored 225 runs in just six innings at a strike rate of 180.00 for CSK in IPL 2025.

In IPL, Brevis has scored 455 runs in 16 innings at an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 153.19.
