With both teams already out of contention for the knockout stages, the match offered an opportunity to sign off on a positive note.

Canada made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Kaleem Sana for Shivam Sharma. Afghanistan also tweaked their combination, with Abdullah Ahmadzai replacing Noor Ahmad.

Bajwa revealed that the fixture would mark the final international appearance for Navneet Dhaliwal and Ravinderpal Singh, both of whom are set to retire after the match.

Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan said his side was determined to finish the campaign strongly and “make the nation proud”.
