Two-Test series between Sri Lanka and India has been given a window of August 15 to 27 according to sources within Sri Lanka Cricket and the BCCI who have spoken to Cricbuzz.
The exact dates for the individual matches have not yet been finalised but the two-week window has been identified and shared with all stakeholders including the Indian team. The series is part of the current ICC World Test Championship cycle and follows the Lanka Premier League which concludes on August 9. Whether the three T20 Internationals originally proposed as part of the tour will also take place remains unconfirmed.
The governance situation at SLC and why BCCI's Saikia is in Colombo
Series planning is taking place against a complicated backdrop in Sri Lankan cricket. The Sri Lanka Cricket board was recently dissolved by the government of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and an interim body called the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee has since been appointed to oversee the administration of the game in the country.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has travelled to Sri Lanka as part of an ICC delegation to assess the situation and the possibility exists that the Transformation Committee will raise the proposed T20 series with Saikia during his visit.
Three T20Is were originally proposed as a fundraiser for victims of last November's Cyclone Ditwah and finding a window for them in an already congested schedule will be a challenge. Saikia has declined to comment on specific scheduling matters suggesting the focus should remain on immediate fixtures.
The crowded schedule that surrounds the India tour of Sri Lanka
India's international calendar between June and October is one of the most congested in recent memory and the Sri Lanka Tests sit within a window that is surrounded by commitments on multiple fronts.
India resume international cricket on June 6 with a one-off Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur followed by three ODIs. They then tour Ireland, England and Zimbabwe before travelling to Sri Lanka in mid-August. September brings further complications.
A six-match white-ball series in Bangladesh comprising three ODIs and three T20Is has been planned though whether it goes ahead given the recent diplomatic tensions between the two countries remains uncertain.
Saikia's response when asked about Bangladesh was measured and non-committal. Beyond Bangladesh India are also scheduled to play three T20Is against Afghanistan in the UAE in September and a home series against West Indies which could overlap with the Nagoya Asian Games where cricket is scheduled between September 25 and October 3.

What Sri Lanka vs India Test series means for the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle
Last Test series between India and Sri Lanka took place in March 2022 in India when India won 2-0. The first Test in Mohali was won by an innings and 222 runs with Ravindra Jadeja scoring 175 not out and taking nine wickets in the match.
Second Test in Bengaluru, a pink-ball day-night fixture, went to India by 238 runs with Shreyas Iyer winning Player of the Match for scores of 92 and 67 on a difficult surface. That was four years ago. India's Test captain is now Shubman Gill who has not played a Test against Sri Lanka yet making this his first series against them in the longest format.
The WTC context gives both Tests additional weight beyond the bilateral record and for India whose home Test performances have been scrutinised following the South Africa series defeat last November performing well in Sri Lanka against an attack that will target spin weaknesses is a meaningful preparatory exercise before the home season begins.
