Match 14 of IPL 2026 will see Delhi Capitals facing off against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. DC have won their two first matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, giving them an excellent start to the season.

Even with this strong start, one talking point remains, Auqib Nabi has not yet made his debut. Bought for INR 8.4 crore after a strong domestic season, he came in with expectations.

But DC have stuck with a winning combination so far, which has meant he has had to wait despite being available.

DC bowling coach Munaf Patel provides full clarity on Auqib Nabi

Bowling coach Munaf Patel gave a detailed and honest update on where Auqib Nabi stands in the team right now, making it clear that the player is not far from getting his opportunity.

Munaf also highlighted his work ethic, which is often a key factor for young or new players breaking into the XI. The fact that he is already being considered as an impact option shows that he is part of the plans, even if he hasn’t played yet.

"He is fond of bowling, has a great work ethic. IPL kee hawa nahi lagi hain ab tak (He has not got the hang of IPL yet). He took 60 wickets in Ranji Trophy, it is a big deal. He is ready to play for us. He could play anytime including as an impact player."

This statement explains both sides of the situation. On one hand, Auqib Nabi is still adjusting to the IPL environment, which is very different from domestic cricket. On the other hand, the DC team management clearly believes he is ready and capable of stepping in whenever needed.

Why DC haven't changed the combination yet

The main reason behind Nabi's absence is team balance and the performances of the current bowling unit. Under Axar Patel, DC have preferred experienced bowlers like Mukesh Kumar, T Natarajan and Lungi Ngidi in the first two matches.

These bowlers bring IPL experience and are used to handling pressure situations, which is important early in the tournament. Since the results have gone in DC's favour, there hasn’t been a strong reason to change the playing XI.

Auqib Nabi was part of the squad and even available as an impact substitute earlier during game against LSG, but the match situation didn't require that change. So it's not about him being left out due to performance, it’s simply that the current setup has worked so far.

Strong domestic form keeps him in contention

What keeps Auqib Nabi relevant in the discussion is his recent form before the IPL. A total of 60 wickets in a single season of the Ranji Trophy is a great accomplishment in itself, particularly when it comes to such a lengthy tournament.

Not only in red-ball cricket but also in white-ball cricket did he prove himself, taking wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. That overall form is what led DC to invest ₹8.4 crore in him during the auction.

Because of this, he isn’t seen as a backup opti, he is seen as someone who can contribute when given the chance. That’s why the team management continues to speak positively about him.

What to expect from DC vs GT IPL 2026 game

Going into the match against GT, DC are likely to think carefully before making any changes, especially after two wins. Teams usually prefer consistency when things are working.

At the same time, this could also be a game where they look at options depending on conditions or workload. That is where Auqib Nabi becomes relevant, particularly as an impact player if the situation allows.

There is no confirmation yet on whether he will play, but based on what the bowling coach has said, he is fully ready and part of the immediate plans. It now depends on team requirements and match conditions rather than anything else.
