India pacer Arshdeep Singh gave fans a timely update on Abhishek Sharma through a light-hearted social media post, even as doubts persist over the opener’s availability for the blockbuster T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan on February 15.
The video, shared shortly after India’s emphatic win over Namibia, showed Abhishek in the dressing room during a post-match meal. Arshdeep cheekily remarked that the opener was still sticking to a simple diet of dal and rice, but the visuals suggested he looked relaxed and on the road to recovery, even if match fitness remains uncertain.
Why was Abhishek Sharma ruled out?

Abhishek was hospitalised in Delhi earlier this week after suffering from a stomach infection, forcing him to miss India’s group-stage match against Namibia. The illness came at an unfortunate time, given his key role at the top of India’s aggressive T20 batting order.
Although he has since been discharged, the team management has opted for caution. At the toss against Namibia, captain Suryakumar Yadav said Abhishek would miss “a game or two,” stressing that the decision was purely precautionary.
Will Abhishek Sharma play against Pakistan?
With the high-voltage India–Pakistan clash approaching, Abhishek’s fitness remains a major talking point. A fully fit Abhishek would add firepower to India’s top order and bolster their chances of sealing Super 8 qualification in style.
However, India are unlikely to rush him back. The opener is central to their plans for the latter stages of the tournament, and the management may prioritise long-term fitness over immediate risk. If he is not cleared in time, Sanju Samson, who opened against Namibia, could retain his place while India await Abhishek’s full recovery.
