India's Women's Selection Committee has announced the squads for India-A's tour of England, which will feature three T20 internationals and three One-Day matches against England-A across June and July 2026.
The headline selection is Anushka Sharma being handed the captaincy for the T20 leg of the tour, a significant vote of confidence in a player who only recently made her senior international debut on India's tour of South Africa. Harleen Deol, who missed out on selection for India's Women's T20 World Cup squad as per latest cricket news, has been named captain for the ODI leg and will be looking to use this tour to push her case for a return to the senior setup.
Two captaincy calls in form of Anushka Sharma and Harleen Deol that define this squad
Anushka Sharma's appointment as T20I captain is the most eye-catching selection in these squads. She made her international debut in South Africa just recently and has been fast-tracked into a leadership role for India-A, a sign that the selectors view her as a long-term captaincy option for the senior side and want to give her experience of leading in a competitive international environment as early as possible.
Vrinda Dinesh has been named as her deputy for the T20 series.
Harleen Deol's captaincy of the ODI squad tells a slightly different story. She missed out on the T20 World Cup squad which was a significant disappointment given her experience, and the ODI captaincy for the England-A tour is both a consolation and an opportunity, a platform to remind the selectors what she can contribute and to lead India-A's next generation of players in the longer format. Pratika Rawal has been named as vice-captain for the One-Day matches.
The new faces worth watching during tour to England
Beyond the captaincy appointments there are several selections that merit attention. Jintimani Kalita has been called up to both squads for the first time, earning a place across both formats on the back of performances that have clearly caught the eye of the selection committee.
Tanisha Singh is a new face in the ODI squad while Purvaja Verlekar gets her first call-up in the T20 squad. Both players will see this tour as the opportunity that can define the next phase of their careers, England in English conditions is one of the most challenging environments for developing cricketers and performing well there tends to fast-track careers considerably.
G. Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma, who have both featured for the senior India side in recent times, find places in both squads and will be expected to provide leadership and experience around the newer players. Kamalini will keep wickets across both formats while Uma Chetry provides wicketkeeping cover in the ODI squad.
