The captain of the Australian team, Alyssa Healy, is convinced that having a new team as the winner of the Women's World Cup will have a significant positive impact on the sport around the world. Neither England nor Australia, the two teams with the most titles, managed to reach the final of the 2025 tournament as they were both knocked out in the semi-finals. England lost to South Africa, while Australia was defeated by India; therefore, two new teams will play the final.
India and South Africa set for historic final, as Alyssa Healy hopes

Healy said it will be “really special” for India to play the summit clash in front of their passionate home crowd, while South Africa, who have never won a World Cup, will also be chasing history. “To see a new winner is going to do wonders for the game. To see how well it's been supported here in India, first and foremost, I think it's great for them to be able to have the opportunity to play it at home in front of home fans in an ODI World Cup final, which is going to be really special for them,” she stated in a post-match press conference, as quoted by India Today.
She also expressed hope for South Africa, noting, “I hope it does great things for Indian cricket and likewise for South Africa as well. I think they've been close in the past, so for them to have an opportunity in a final, yeah, it's going to be, going to be great to watch. It's going to hurt a little bit, but it's going to be really great to watch and hopefully we see it do great things for the global game and more investment in each of these nations moving forward.”
Australia have won seven out of the 12 Women’s World Cup tournaments held so far. India have previously reached the final twice (2009 and 2017), while South Africa will be appearing in the 50-over World Cup final for the first time. The final of the Women’s World Cup 2025 will be played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. In their recent round-robin encounter, Laura Wolvaardt’s South African side defeated the co-hosts.
