India opener Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised with a stomach infection, casting doubt over his availability for Thursday’s T20 World Cup match against Namibia.
The 25-year-old has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi for the past two days, with medical tests currently underway to determine the exact nature of the illness.
“Abhishek has been admitted due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being conducted to ascertain the problem. It is still unclear whether he will be discharged today, but his participation in the match against Namibia looks doubtful at the moment,” a BCCI source said.
Despite the setback, the Indian team management remains hopeful that Sharma will recover in time for the high-profile clash against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15.
It is understood that Sharma had attended a team dinner at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s residence on Sunday, but left earlier than the rest of the squad after feeling unwell.
