Barcelona moved closer to keeping their league crown after overpowering Espanyol 4-1 at home on Saturday; the win pushed them nine points ahead of Real Madrid. Though it was a derby clash, the dominance never felt close, each goal widening the gap as much on the table as in momentum.

Ferran Torres opened the scoring, finding the net two times before halftime, each chance built by a quietly brilliant Lamine Yamal. From the first whistle, Barcelona pressed forward, controlling play with sharp passes and tight coordination. Now on 79 points, they hold steady with only seven games left to go.

A goal came early when Torres jumped high to meet Yamal’s corner, finding the net amid chaos inside the Espanyol area. Not long afterwards, a sharp pass from Yamal split the defence, setting up Torres, who slipped past Dmitrović with cool precision.

Barcelona kept the ball most of the time, yet Espanyol still managed a few chances, one of which saw Tyrhys Dolan hit the bar. Out of nowhere in the 56th minute, Pol Lozano put them ahead after following up on a loose shot, changing how things felt for a stretch.

Late surge seals derby dominance

Pressure rising, Barcelona found its rhythm again late on. Right at the end, in the 87th minute, Yamal pounced. A slip by keeper Dmitrović left the ball loose, and he was first to it, sliding home. Moments after that, the score jumped to four when Rashford met De Jong’s pass across the box. The goal closed out a commanding performance in the city rivalry match.
