NEW DELHI: Australia have further stamped their authority on the World Test Championship points table after crushing England 4-1 in the 2025–26 Ashes series.
With seven wins from eight matches, Pat Cummins’ side sit comfortably at the top with an imposing points percentage of 87.50, leaving them firmly on course for the WTC final.
The dominance was once again on display in the final Test at Sydney, where Australia calmly chased down the target on day five with five wickets in hand.

England sink further
For England, the Ashes defeat has dealt a major blow to their World Test Championship campaign. Pushed further down the points table, their chances of making the final now appear almost impossible.
England have managed only two or three wins across 10 matches, with a poor points percentage of 31.67 reflecting a deeply disappointing run.
India under pressure
India’s position in the updated WTC points table is also far from secure. With a points percentage of 48.15 and just four wins from nine matches, the margin for error has narrowed significantly. To break into the top two, India will likely need to win almost every remaining game.
Recent events have not helped their cause. The whitewash against South Africa has complicated an already challenging path, putting added pressure on a side that finished runners-up in the previous two WTC finals.
For the two-time WTC runners-up, the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka later this year could define their campaign. Conditions will be demanding, and anything short of a strong series win could all but end their hopes of reaching another final.
