Pat Cummins’ long-awaited return to the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in IPL 2026 might be ending soon, with the Australian pacer expected to rejoin the side shortly.
The winners of the 2016 edition have not had the best start to this season. They have clearly missed the experience that Cummins brings, both as a leader and as a bowler.
Pat Cummins injury update and return timeline in IPL 2026
Pat Cummins has been out of professional cricket for a while now. He has been dealing with a back injury, which has kept him away from the game for a long period.
According to reports, Cummins left the IPL campaign and has returned to Australia to undergo final scans. These scans are being conducted under the supervision of Cricket Australia.
If everything goes well and he gets the required clearance, he is expected to rejoin the SRH squad very soon.
Cummins has already missed many events lately. He missed the ODI and T20 series against India last year, then featured in only one Ashes Test before being sidelined again. Moreover, Cummins also missed the T20 World Cup 2026.
SRH’s next clash will be against a strong-looking Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 11. Now it's confirmed that Cummins is not going to be a part of this crucial clash.
SRH struggling without their leader
Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently placed sixth on the points table with just one win in three matches. Their bowling slump was clearly visible during their opening clash against RCB and later against LSG.
The bowling unit has lacked clarity, especially under pressure. At the same time, the absence of a proper leader is also visible on the field.
In Pat Cummins’ absence, Ishan Kishan has been handling the captaincy role. In the bowling attack, players like Eshan Malinga and David Payne fill the overseas slot, but have struggled t o impress.
Overall, SRH are still trying to find a balance, and Cummins’ return could make a big difference to their campaign.
