Lucknow Super Giants have received a timely boost ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 4, with Josh Inglis finally joining the squad.

His arrival comes at a stage where LSG’s campaign is hanging by a thread, turning this fixture into a must-win encounter if they are to keep their playoff hopes alive in IPL 2026.

Josh Inglis’ availability comes amid LSG’s batting struggles

Josh Inglis had missed the initial phase of the tournament due to personal commitments, having taken time off following his recent marriage to be with his family.

His absence was felt as Lucknow struggled to settle their batting order. The team has endured a disappointing run with the bat, with none of their key players managing to build consistency or deliver match-defining performances.

With the pressure mounting and the margin for error almost gone, Inglis’ return could not have come at a better time for the franchise.

Lucknow’s batting unit has been one of the biggest concerns this season. Several of their established names have failed to make an impact, which has disrupted the team’s overall balance.

Nicholas Pooran has managed just 82 runs in eight matches, struggling at a strike rate of 81, while Aiden Markram has scored 193 runs without any significant contributions.

With the team under pressure and another defeat likely to end their qualification chances, LSG are expected to seriously consider changes.

Josh Inglis, given his aggressive approach and ability to accelerate, has a strong chance of being drafted straight into the XI.

He is likely to replace either Pooran or Markram, especially with the overseas combination under scrutiny and the need for a fresh spark in the batting lineup.

Inglis has emerged as one of the more reliable T20 batters in recent times. Known for his strong bottom-hand play and ability to hit straight down the ground, he brings intent that LSG have clearly lacked this season.

He previously represented Punjab Kings and made useful contributions. In 11 matches, he scored 278 runs at an impressive strike rate of 162, highlighting his ability to shift momentum quickly.

For a side struggling to find rhythm, Inglis could provide the much-needed impetus.

Pressure builds on LSG and Rishabh Pant

Lucknow are currently placed at the bottom of the points table, with very little margin left to recover. Their campaign has been affected by inconsistent performances and questionable team combinations.

Captain Rishabh Pant has faced scrutiny over team selections and a constantly changing batting order, which has prevented the side from building any stability.

With their backs against the wall, the inclusion of Josh Inglis could prove to be a defining move in their campaign.
