USA have named a familiar-looking squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, with as many as 10 players from their historic 2024 campaign in the Americas retained. The 15-member squad will be led by Monank Patel, with the tournament set to begin on February 7.

The Americans will open their campaign against co-hosts and defending champions India in Mumbai, a marquee clash that immediately puts them in the spotlight.
The squad announcement comes amid extraordinary circumstances. USA Cricket was suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on September 23 last year for serious breaches of membership criteria. As a result, the team was selected through a newly designed process developed jointly by the ICC and the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.
According to an official release, all members of the selection panel submitted conflict-of-interest declarations to the USOPC, while the selection meeting was overseen by a USOPC-appointed compliance officer to ensure strict adherence to established procedures.
USA arrive at the World Cup on the back of a breakthrough 2024 campaign, where they stunned Pakistan and progressed to the Super Eight stage, one of the biggest upsets in tournament history.
In preparation for the global event, the team has undergone an extensive training camp in Sri Lanka, focusing on skill development, tactical awareness, and team cohesion. The USA have been drawn into a challenging Group A alongside India, Pakistan, Namibia, and the Netherlands.
Head coach Pubudu Dassanayake expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness.
“We hit every target and that’s a testament to the players’ dedication and hard work. The World Cup squad is strong, balanced, and ready to dominate in every department,” he said.
