Winning the series in the second match would’ve lifted spirits, said India’s left-arm spinner Sree Charani, though she made clear the squad has turned its attention completely to taking victory in the final game against England.
On Saturday, England struck back with a 26-run win, pulling the three-game series level at 1-1 after India’s strong 38-run triumph earlier this week. With the ICC Women's T20 World Cup set to kick off in England and Wales on June 12, these matches are shaping up as vital preparation.
"It would have given us more confidence if we had won here and taken a 2-0 lead," Charani said during the post-match press conference. "Every match is important for us because we always want to take something positive out of it. Now we have a good challenge ahead of us, and I think we'll take it."
Sree Charani shines despite India's defeat
Even after India lost the second T20I, Sree Charani shone through her three wickets. Her spell stood out when others struggled under pressure. While runs dried up elsewhere, she kept pushing with sharp pace and control. Not every bowler found rhythm that evening, but she did. Moments like these often slip by unnoticed; hers didn’t.
A ball turning sharply caught Wyatt-Hodge off guard early on. Next came Amy Jones, edging wide after a short stay. Then the Knight walked back too, failing to build momentum. Each fall slowed England’s flow. The teenager's spell twisted the game just enough. What helped Charani thrive was leaning into what came easily, not chasing new versions of herself.
"I am just trying to bowl to my strength. I am not trying anything special, just focusing on my sequences and execution," she said. "Turning the ball is my key strength, and I try to make the most of that."
On Tuesday, India moves to Taunton for the crucial third T20I. After that comes a pair of practice games in Cardiff - June 8 and again on the 10th, as they fine-tune World Cup plans.
Starting June 14, the Women in Blue face Pakistan to kick off their T20 World Cup journey.
