All-rounder Sophie Molineux has been named Australia’s next captain, set to take over from Alyssa Healy following the conclusion of the upcoming home series against India, Cricket Australia confirmed on Thursday.

Healy, 35, announced earlier this month that she will retire at the end of the series, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished 16-year international career. Her tenure included two ODI World Cup titles and six T20 World Cup triumphs, cementing her legacy as one of Australia’s most influential leaders.
As part of the transition, Molineux, 28, will lead Australia in the three-match T20I series against India, while Healy will continue to captain the side in the three ODIs and the one-off Test.
Molineux will then assume full-time captaincy across formats, taking charge of the ODI and Test teams during Australia’s tour of the Caribbean in March.
“It’s a real honour to be named Australian captain and something I’m incredibly proud of,” Molineux said. “To follow on from Alyssa, who has had such a massive impact on this team and on the game, makes it even more special.”
Australia’s series against India begins with the first T20I in Sydney on February 15 and concludes with the lone Test in Perth, starting on March 6.
