Royal Challengers Bengaluru recorded an 18-run win against Mumbai Indians to add more misery on the struggling hosts at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 12. Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar, and Virat Kohli scored fifties to help RCB post a 240 total batting first, and then Susyash Sharma shone with the ball to restrict MI to 222 for 5 in 20 overs.

Entering the game after facing a big defeat against the Royals, the defending champions produced a brilliant all-round display to register their third win in four games this season. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians suffered their third consecutive defeat in the IPL 2026 after winning the opener against KKR.

RCB post record total against MI

After being forced to bat first, RCB openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli added 120 runs for the first wicket in just 10.5 overs. Rickelton top-scored with 78 runs off just 36 balls to play arguably his best knock in the tournament's history.

After Rickelton's departure, the Wankhede witnessed Rajat Patidar's fiery knock of 53 off just 20 balls. RCB captain's innings was a key behind RCB's mammoth total as the team struggled a bit after his wicket. Kohli held the fort at one end with 50 off 38 balls, and Tim David added finishing touches with an unbeaten 34 off 16 balls to take RCB to 240 for 4 total.

This was Bengaluru's highest-ever total against Mumbai Indians and also at Wankhede Stadium. The team's batting dominance continued as they recorded a 200-plus total for the fourth consecutive time, for the first time in their history.

Both Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli are now placed among the top five run-getters this season and are strong contenders for the Orange Cap. Phil Salt's return to form is also a big boost for the team ahead of the remainder of their campaign.

Meanwhile, Myanak Markande and Shardul Thakur leaked over 16 runs per over, while Jasprit Bumrah's four-match wicketless run continued.

Mumbai Indians' batting woes exposed by RCB

With the bat, Mumbai Indians enjoyed a strong start with Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma adding 57 runs before the latter retired hurt due to a hamstring issue in the sixth over. Suryash Sharma came as an impact player and took two big wickets in the eighth over to keep Bengaluru ahead in the game.

Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav showed some fightback in the middle overs, but the pressure of a big chase got both players out. Sherfane Rutherford came in as an impact player and played his best knock for the five-time champions. The Caribbean big-hitter smashed 71 runs off 31 balls with the help of nine sixes, four of which came in the last over off Romario Shepherd, but it was in vain as Mumbai only managed to reach 222 for 5.

Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav's poor run of form continued as the duo failed to make an impact with the bat despite a strong start in the powerplay. Tilak has managed only 35 runs in four innings this season, while Surya has 106 runs in the same number of innings. Hardik smashed a quick 40 but, once again, was not able to finish the game.

Meanwhile, for RCB, Suyash Sharma took two wickets for 47, while Jacob Duffy, Rasikh Sar, and Krunal Pandya clinched one wicket each. Phil Salt grabbed the Player of the Match award for his quick 78 runs.
