Wasim Akram takes a bold swipe at IPL while praising PSL's compact format

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) promotion roadshow was held at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, featuring Pakistan legend Wasim Akram, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, and cricket commentator Ramiz Raja, who all graced the occasion. However, fast-bowling great Wasim Akram stole the spotlight by taking a sharp dig at the Indian Premier League during his speech at the event. The IPL typically runs for around two months, featuring nearly 74 matches, including the knockout stages. While other global leagues also boast lengthy schedules, the IPL remains one of the longest in terms of duration. Wasim Akram said, "The best thing about PSL is that it lasts for 34 days or a bit more next year. It’s not three months long like other league. "Bachay baray ho jatay hain, woh league khatam hi nahi hoti." pic.twitter.com/8yJ4VfaUFB — Sheri. (@CallMeSheri1_) December 8, 2025 Taking a subtle swipe at the marathon nature of the IPL - a tournament he has been closely associated with as a commentator and occasional player during its early years - Pakistan legend Wasim Akram praised the PSL for its short, sharp, and action-packed format. "The best thing about PSL is that it lasts for 34 days or a bit more next year. It's not three months long like other league. Bachay bade ho jatay hain, woh league khatam hi nahi hoti (Kids grow up by the time those leagues end - they just never seem to finish)" Akram shared while speaking at the show. The 18th edition of the IPL in 2025 kicked off on March 22 and concluded on June 3. However, the final had to be postponed due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor. In contrast, the PSL is a more compact tournament, featuring just six teams compared to the IPL's ten. The Pakistan T20 league typically spans around a month, with the next edition set to begin in May 2026.
