The second match of IPL 2026 saw the Mumbai Indians defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders by a comfortable six-wicket margin in the game held in the legendary Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, March 29. It became a scoring match as expected, and both teams gave the spectators an entertaining event.

Shardul Thakur, a veteran pacer, was instrumental to MI, as he posted some impressive numbers of 3/39 and won the Player of the Month award. Having been sent into the field as the first batsmen to take the field, the KKR team had a competitive score of 220/4 in their 20 overs. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane took the centre stage, as he scored a steady 67, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi also impressed with a fluent 51. Finn Allen (37) and Rinku Singh (33) were also significant contributors, with contributions that completed a great total.

The target was, however, not enough to counter the overwhelming MI batting performance. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton had created a red-hot opening of 148 runs in 11.5 overs, and they have stolen the game away from the KKR at the outset. The beautiful 78 by Rohit and the scuttling 81 by Rickelton established the best background, and the middle order completed the task very easily in 19.1 overs.

“Rohit and Kohli copying each other” - fans turn MI’s chase into a meme fest

The game was not only a great show on the ground, but it also set a trend of hilarious posts on the social media site X. The crowd was full of memes of the overwhelming power of the MI chase and the helplessness of the KKR bowlers.
