A worrying moment unfolded for Kolkata Knight Riders as captain Ajinkya Rahane was forced to leave the field during their IPL 2026 season opener against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium after sustaining a suspected foot injury.

Rahane appeared to be in discomfort just before the fifth over, holding his foot and immediately calling for medical attention. The physios attended to him on the field before he eventually made his way off, leaving KKR concerned about his condition.

With the captain unavailable, vice-captain Rinku Singh stepped in to lead the side on the field and managed the team’s proceedings for the remainder of the innings.
