The spotlight shifts to the northern part of the country, where Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will host Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 5 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Wednesday, April 1.

Two sides are still searching for their first title; both have shown promise over the years but have not quite finished the job.

LSG vs DC match preview

LSG, led by Rishabh Pant, have been a scintillating batting unit over the years. Last season showed exactly when their top three overseas batters, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, all crossed the 400-run mark, something never seen before in the league. That trio will again carry the expectations this time. In bowling, the addition of Mohammed Shami gives them a boost, but still the attack looks slightly inexperienced and lacks depth.

Talking about DC, they had a brilliant first half last season, winning six of their first seven games. But things fell apart in the second half, and they lost track completely, which cost them a playoff spot. Led by Axar Patel, this side still looks quite balanced. In batting, KL Rahul will take charge, while in bowling, they have the experience of Kuldeep Yadav. However, the absence of Mitchell Starc in the initial games could be a big blow.

LSG vs DC pitch report

Ekana Stadium usually offers a balanced surface. The big boundaries often make stroke play a bit challenging and we have seen quite a few low scoring matches here in the past.

But last season things changed a bit. The pitch became better for batting and high scoring games were more frequent. Something similar is expected again this time.

LSG vs DC key players

Mitchell Marsh (LSG) – Marsh was in sublime form in IPL 2025 scoring 627 runs and he has carried that rhythm forward. He will be the main engine of Lucknow’s batting once again.

KL Rahul (DC) – With more than 5200 IPL runs Rahul remains one of the most dependable batters in the league. You just can’t rule him out on any day.

Nicholas Pooran (LSG) – The Caribbean power hitter has been the backbone of Lucknow’s middle order since the start. He will be once again taking the charge of batting unit, especially in middle overs.

Kuldeep Yadav (DC) – The left arm wrist spinner picked up 15 wickets last season with an economy around 7, which shows the kind of skillset he poses. Given the big boundaries of Lucknow, he may be the main man for DC.

LSG vs DC match prediction

Both sides have some of the finest T20 players, but there are concerns around the bowling units of both teams. There is a lack of experience and depth, which could be exposed under pressure.

Still, when you look at the batting firepower and the home conditions, Lucknow Super Giants look slightly ahead. Playing at Ekana gives them that extra edge.
