RCB will take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 after finishing at the top of the points table despite their heavy defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final league-stage game. The defending champions know exactly what is at stake here, one good night in the field locks up a direct ticket to the grand finale in Ahmedabad.

There are no second chances needed if they win, meaning the pressure is firmly on to flush that recent SRH loss out of their system and click when it matters most. However, a recent string of injuries to key overseas players has forced the team management into some serious thinking regarding their combination.

With the pressure of the playoffs looming, Bengaluru is desperate to find the right balance at the high-altitude HPCA Stadium. Fortunately for them, a massive selection boost is brewing behind the scenes that could completely reset their tactical blueprint just in time for Tuesday's blockbuster clash.

RCB vs GT, IPL 2026 Qualifier 1: Phil Salt's fitness update and a late selection decision

The RCB camp has received a major boost with opening batsman Phil Salt returning to the setup, but the team management is refusing to rush into a premature call. The explosive England wicketkeeper-batsman hasn't featured since fracturing his finger against Delhi Capitals on April 18, an injury that initially forced him back to the UK for treatment.

While Phil Salt wasn't spotted at the primary eve-of-match practice session, captain Rajat Patidar confirmed on Sunday that Salt is functionally ready and working closely with the medical staff. The final decision now hinges entirely on how the Dharamshala track behaves on match day.

'Phil Salt is fit. He is under observation from the doctor. He has been participating in a few drills but we haven’t decided on our playing eleven yet. We will look at the wicket and decide,' RCB captain Patidar said.

Phil Salt's availability couldn't have come at a better time for Bengaluru. The team's batting depth was thrown into a scramble after youngster Jacob Bethell injured his left ring finger against Punjab Kings, subsequently missing the final league fixture against SRH.

If Salt passes the medical team's final checks, he will walk straight back to his opening slot alongside Virat Kohli. This immediately fixes the structural balance, restoring the dangerous powerplay pairing that gave RCB immense momentum throughout the first half of the season.

RCB vs GT, IPL 2026 Qualifier 1: Venkatesh Iyer back to doing what he does best

Having Phil Salt back also frees up Venkatesh Iyer to play his natural game lower down. Iyer was forced into an emergency opening role during that massive 256-run chase against SRH, where he smashed a quickfire 44 off just 19 balls. Patidar was full of praise for how Iyer has selflessly handled a fluctuating role in the side this year.

'I have known Venky since childhood. He has a great attitude and is ready to bat anywhere in the order,' Patidar said. 'He was a main player at KKR but when he came here, he didn't get a lot of chances in the beginning. He accepted that and ensured he was prepared when the chance came to cash in.'

With Phil Salt handling the opening burst, Iyer can drop back down into the middle order to act as the finisher, giving RCB a much more stable and dangerous look for the knockouts.
